- ARTIST: Curiosity session
- TITLE: vol.1: Flamenco in my heart
- RELEASE: february 2025
Originally Slovak flamenco guitarist Braňo Krajčo performs in the world under the artistic name Flaco de Nerja. He was the initiator of the crossover project Curiosity meeting. The project presents an international meeting of curious musicians of different genres with a desire to communicate with each other on a flamenco basis.
“The motive was curiosity about how my compositions would sound spiced up with new elements. I wanted to record an album with people from different parts of the music world who would bring a different approach and possibly new compositions”, explains Flaco his concept.
At the core of the project are Flaco de Nerja’s compositions. They are based on palos – flamenco forms – such as rumba, tangos or bulerias. The compositions have a strong melodic character. The album is complemented by compositions by Erik Rothenstein and Jukka Haavisto, which are a fusion of jazz and flamenco tradition. Both “extend” traditional harmonic practices and draw on the essence and function of their instruments. Haavisto focuses on a distinctive bass groove and Rothenstein on thematic melodic variation. There is also a small “jam session” on the album. A humorously spiced chamber encounter of saxophone and percussion in Dizzi Gillespie’s Con Alma.
The album is a “curious encounter” of musicians of different orientations. The interplay between the performers forms a compact whole of interesting flamenco-based compositions.
